Thor: Love and Thunder will feature Natalie Portman in the role of Jane Foster, who will be picking up Mjonir and claiming the mantel of “Thor” herself in the fourth movie. While the MCU’s legitimate Loki, played by Tom Hiddleson, died in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, a splinter-timeline in which the God of Mischief survives is being explored in the upcoming Disney+ series, Loki, although it is unclear what connection (if any) exists between the streaming Disney+ series and the upcoming movie. Just what Damon’s return in Thor: Love and Thunder might imply remains to be seen. What Does Damon’s Return to Thor EVEN Mean? The scene includes several other meta-jokes in its casting, as the stage role of Thor is played by Thor Odinson actor Chris Hemsworth’s real-world older brother, Luke Hemsworth, and Sam Neill (who previously worked with Waititi on the 2016 movie The Hunt for the Wilderpeople) portrays the in-universe actor playing the Asgardian patriarch, Odin (whose real-self was portrayed by Anthony Hopkins in the MCU). Damon portrays a stage actor in the role of a lifetime, Loki, for an in-universe play that is being produced by the God of Mischief himself (hence the stunt casting of movie star Damon as Loki). Matt Damon first appeared in the MCU in Ragnarok, thanks to a brief cameo. Matt Damon plays a fictional version of the “hero” Loki in Thor: Ragnarok.
